* Trust *

In Computing this week both classes have spent some time discussing online safety. We used the story of ‘Smartie the Penguin’ that they heard in Reception to help us. In summary, Smartie had a tablet for his birthday and used it a lot. Occasionally he came across a pop up and games he wasn’t sure on. Smartie knew to be SENSIBLE online and to always ask an adult if he was unsure. We sang the song to help remind us what to do!

This led us to talk about trust and whether we can trust everyone. We talked about how we can trust our family, teachers and police officers. I asked the individuals if they would trust someone at the park that they didn’t know. I gave them a scenario that if someone approached them and invited them to their house because they had sweeties, would they go? The results were quite alarming and about 50% of both classes said they would. I then spent some time discussing with all of the children the importance of never to trust anyone they don’t know and to always find and tell their parents if they feel scared or uncomfortable.

I made a note of the pupils’ responses so if you’d like confirmation to find out what your child said then please feel free to email me: kwilson@coopersedge.gloucs.sch.uk

Please, please find some time to talk about trust and ask them the same scenario above and see what your child would respond second time round.
