* Buddy Reading *

Another successful Buddy Reading session this afternoon. Lots of lovely comments shared by the Y4s, saying how their Y1 Reading Buddy read their book better this week than last week. Practise makes perfect and retreading books definitely helps to build up fluency.

* Ordering Instructions *

Last week we had Warburtons in to bake some bread, but how much could the children remember? Today the children had to work in groups to order the instructions before having a go at writing them themselves. Some children listened well and worked well together as a team, some needed a little reassurance and a reminder to listen to their friends if they didn’t initially agree with their friend’s choice etc.

* Active Maths *

All of this week we have been working on our addition and subtraction. We’ve been rearranging the numbers in the number sentences to make fact families. We took our learning outside today to build on what we already know. We each had a number and had to run around the playground. When our teacher blew the whistle we had to match up with a friend. With the two numbers we had to write down all the addition and subtraction calculations. Here are some examples. Some of us used leaves to help us to work out the total if the numbers were too big.

* Learning to Type *

The first skill of learning how to type is by locating the keys on the keyboard. Both classes this afternoon were using Purple Mash ‘2Type’ to practise where to find the keys. Each time they got it right they scored a point, when they get it wrong they lose a point. Have a go at home on a laptop or computer, their login details are on the inside of their reading records.
