This child is able to sound out all the phase 5 phonemes. I’m posting this to support you in your own understanding.

This afternoon we have been sorting animals based on where they live (habitats). We have been looking at their physical features to see how they would adapt to their environment. I wonder if your child can tell you something they have learnt today about habitats…

Well done to the children pictured, who were awarded a certificate for hard work while in the pupil kitchen.  I look forward to working again with Larks and Owls later in the school year.

Today we spent some more time discussing how we get day and night. The children worked in groups of three. One was the sun, one was Earth and one was the moon.

Try asking your child some of these questions:

How do we get day and night?

What planet do we live on? 🌍 what is Earth made up of?

How many continents are there? How many oceans are there?

How long does it take the Earth to complete one spin on its axis?

How long does it take the Earth to complete one full orbit of the sun?

This week we have been revisiting our place value and partitioning numbers. We have been using the terminology of tens and ones and partitioning them using a part part whole method. Today in Larks we admired each other’s artwork after we painted in the style of Van Gogh. We chose two colours and worked on different brush strokes. We circled the room and critiqued each other’s work and chose our favourites. Our artwork will be displayed soon and will be shared online soon…
