“Good Morning Larks and Owls, We have enjoyed seeing some of  your dance moves, music and bubble work that you have been doing this week. Has anyone had a go at the fractions task? Wise Old Owl and I are quite good at sharing, we share some of our sweeties. There are a couple more tasks for you to have a go at, they will stay on the blog so don’t worry if you don’t get them done today. Have a go at doing your spellings and let us know how you get on. Speak to you soon, love Bumble & Wise Old Owl.”

English Tasks:

Task 3: Using another writing stimulus inside your green book that was sent home, can you answer the question fully? Remember to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We have included a letter formation & tricky word spelling mat for you here to refer to. It doesn’t matter which writing activity you want to do first. Remember to practise your phonemes and tricky words and also do some reading.

Maths Tasks:

Task 3:

Have a conversation about time at home with your child. Why do we use it? What would happen if we lived in a world without time? Thought shower and make a list of everything we need the time for. Go on a walk around the house – how many clocks do you have in the house? Where can we find the time in the house? (oven/microwave/phone/watch/TV?) Look at an analogue clock in the house – discuss the different hands on the clock. Chn need to be able to read the hand to the nearest O’clock and half past by the end of Y1. Can your child reads these clocks? Below is a link to a game and additional resources you might want to use.

Can you tell the time on these clocks? As a challenge, try making your own home made analogue clock. Maybe using a paper plate? Can you add the correct hands onto the clock?

ART PROJECT

All of our art activities this time are about bubbles. I know you are all busy washing your hands so here are some ideas to help you get creative while staying safe!

There are some links at the bottom to tutorials to inspire you…and remember to post any of your work on the Padlet for us to share. Enjoy

Week 1

English Tasks:

Task 2: Using another writing stimulus inside your green book that was sent home, can you answer the question fully? Remember to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We have included a letter formation & tricky word spelling mat for you here to refer to. It doesn’t matter which writing activity you want to do first. Remember to practise your phonemes and tricky words and also do some reading.

Maths Tasks:

Task 2:

We want you to revisit some of the learning that we have done on halves and quarters. We have attached two videos for you to see below, if these fail to work have a look on YouTube. Try showing your understanding of finding a half and a quarter of shapes to begin with. Make sure all parts are equal. Then move on to finding half of a number/amount. E.g. count out 6 toy cars. Can you half them? Split them into two hoops/groups/plates/baskets whatever you have in the house. How many do you get each? Rpt the same for numbers up to 20. What do you notice about numbers that are odd/even? Explore using lots of different items around the house. Pegs, Lego, toys, socks etc! If you do any baking at home, this is where you could also discuss fractions or when eating e.g. half of a chocolate bar, orange etc. Have fun exploring fractions!

Your Music task this week

(feel free to adapt how you wish so that your child can access it- this is available for all pupils, so make it a family activity like an Edgy Time)

Listen to these two pieces of music; Zorba’s Dance by Mikis Theodorakis (1964) and In The Hall Of The Mountain King by Edvard Grieg (1875). Feel free to move or dance to them but make sure you’re listening carefully too!

What do you think of each piece of music?

What can you hear?

Can you spot what is the same about both of them?

In both pieces of music, the tempo changes. Tempo is the musical word for speed. Both pieces of music start slow and get quicker and quicker!

Now it’s your turn to respond to one or both of these pieces of music. Here are a few ideas. You could do all of them, or just choose your favourite!

  • Create a dance or piece of art that expresses the tempo of one of these pieces of music.
  • Play an instrument in the style of one of these pieces of music. This could be as simple as playing along to one of the pieces by banging a spoon on a pan, or as complicated as using your own instrument to play a piece of music that you have already learnt but changing the tempo as you go along.
  • Compose your own piece of music that changes in tempo. You could use an instrument or an app such as GarageBand.

Don’t forget to record or photograph your creations, performances and compositions and add them to the Padlet. We can’t wait to see and hear them!

English Tasks:

Task 1: Using the writing stimulus inside your green book that was sent home, can you answer the question fully? Remember to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We have included a letter formation & tricky word spelling mat for you here to refer to. It doesn’t matter which writing activity you want to do first. There will be 3 that we do this week.

Maths Tasks:

Task 1: We would like you to do a shape hunt at home. Finding 2D and 3D shapes. When you have found some items, can you identify their properties? Does it have sides? edges? Can you maybe find 3 of each shape below and then sort them? Biggest to smallest? Maybe ordering them – starting with fewer sides to the shapes with the most sides.

Here are some additional resources: 2D Shapes Riddles for 2D and 3D shapes

Phonics Below we have stolen Miss Wilson and Mrs Gillison’s powerpoints so you can use them at home too. Practise these every day and remember to practise spelling of the tricky words above.
